One Delicious Gift: Jezebel Sauce

I’ve blogged about Jezebel Sauce a couple of times before, but always as an appetizer, poured over cream cheese and snacked on with crackers. But, y’all…it makes a wonderful gift, as well, for your neighbors, for a hostess, or just for someone you really, really like and want to make smile!

In this photograph, I’ve used it in one of my favorite ways:  on biscuits with ham and cream cheese. They’re fabulous for a brunch buffet, because they can be served at room temperature and are simply delicious.

One batch of this makes 4 half-pint jars, and takes about five minutes to whip up. Really.

Jezebel Sauce

  • 16 oz apple jelly
  • 16 oz pineapple jelly (or apricot-pineapple)
  • 4 oz prepared horseradish
  • 4 Tbsp dry mustard
  • 2 Tbsp ground black pepper

1. Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl, stirring with a whisk until smooth and well blended.  Spoon into jars and store in the refrigerator for up to one month.

If you’re giving this as a gift, make a note on the tag that it must be kept refrigerated. It’s fine out of the refrigerator for a few hours so you can deliver it, but don’t wrap it and put it under the tree!

And, because I’m feeling the Christmas spirit (and want to make it easy on you to give this amazing sauce to your friends), click on the image below to download a sheet of labels.  They’re sized to fit a 2” circle punch, and you can print them on white cardstock, punch them out, and glue them back-to-back to make a faux chalkboard tag. Mark will love this! Any chance we’ll see you in Oklahoma over the holidays? Jan

I hope he does…it’s an easy treat to whip up in now time! No, we won’t make it to OK this year…Frank’s been at an exercise in Japan for the last two weeks, so they’ll be playing catchup at work during the holidays, unfortunately.

  2. I discovered this recipe in your cooking class in 2002/2003 at Fort Lewis. I make it AT LEAST once a year. I never thought to make it for a gift….I am doing this THIS YEAR! I love this stuff and love the idea of the biscuits……I hadn’t branched beyond the cream cheese, and that is so good (even the next day). Yum

Mmmmm! Sounds so delicious! You’ve given me so many gift ideas Megan, my head is swirling and can’t make a decision! 🙂 Thanks!

That’s how I am about cookie swaps, Steph! I had one today and one tomorrow, and it was almost impossible to decide what to make! (White Chocolate Cherry Shortbread today, Gingerbread Snowflakes for tomorrow)

Can this Jezebel Sauce be canned?
