Okay, y’all…I have to tell you, this was the most fun craft I’ve done in ages! Seriously. I put those hooligans to work putting jack o’lantern faces on tangerines with Sharpies (for the 4K class party) and then they raked the front yard, so I had almost a whole afternoon for crafting!
Although this was really done in steps that took about 10 to 15 minutes, then needed drying time. Those crafts seem to work best for me these days, with my disjointed days due to kid activities. You know, like cooking their meals, doing laundry, all that frivolous stuff! My point here is that even if you don’t have an afternoon free, you can still make this and feel totally artsy-craftsy!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- (3) 48-inch long firring strips (1-1/2” wide, 1/4” thick)
- 12” square thick yellow felt (I found it in the needlecraft section at Michaels)
- Felted balls for the centers (I used Feltworks Bracelet Kit, also from Michaels)
- A stencil of the letters (or you can just use stick-on letters)
- Ivory craft paint
- Wood stain
- Log Cabin Smooch Spritz (from Stampin’ Up, but retired…find similar at craft stores)
- E6000 (what craft project isn’t better with E6000?)
- A couple of twigs to use as stems
- Some ribbon to tie around stems
First, my favorite GI Joe cut the pieces for me…he also bought them, in a giant bundle, at Home Depot. For a 12”x14” finished product, I needed (9) 12-inch long pieces and (2) 13-inch long pieces for the back braces.
I stained them, all the way around, and let them dry. I spritzed them with Log Cabin (dark brown) Smooch Spritz. Then I put E6000 on the brace pieces and arranged the boards on top. And let that dry for a couple of hours. While I did those frivolous chores.
While the glue was drying, I also cut petals out of the felt and stapled the ends to give them some dimension.
Then I glued the flowers, stems, and centers to the pallet.
Next, I cut a stencil using my Silhouette Cameo, place it where I wanted it, and used some ivory craft paint to fill in the stencil. Have I mentioned how much I love having a Cameo, finally, after two years of procrastinating?
Lastly, I tied a bow made of Polka Dot Chocolate Chip ribbon from Stampin’ Up!.
I love the results…and I’m now thrilled the hubs bought that giant bundle of boards…so I can make pallet art for every reason and season!
this is fabulous!
Thanks, Sandi!
Ah, so this is how the silhouette works!! So many possibilities… 🙂
Aren’t there, though? It boggles my mind…so then I sit around trying to decide what I want to do first! Paralysis by analysis, as my friend Gretchen says!
