Banner in a Box

Ever wanted something more than just a card to send to a friend? This Banner in a Box works perfectly for that!

Banner-ChaosServedDailyI finally found time to use my brand spankin’ new Silhouette Cameo, which arrived a week ago…and I hadn’t really played with yet!  I cut some banner shapes from printed Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP from Stampin’ Up! (love that set!), then just enlarged it 0.25 inches to make a slightly larger solid Basic Gray background for each banner.  Lastly, I cut the letters “Happy Halloween” out of Basic Gray, but first I attached a sheet of Sizzix adhesive (also from Stampin’ Up!) so it was super simple to adhere the letters to the banner pieces.

My eldest was home sick from school while I was crafting, so he punched holes in the top corners once the banners were assembled, and even “sewed” the bakers’ twine through them.  Then he added a few stickers (with editorial comments from me), and we had a super cute banner to send a friend who is far away.

But you can’t just throw a banner in an envelope and mail it, now can you?  So I repurposed a Laughing Cow cheese box by painting and embellishing it. First I peeled off as much of the label as possible, then painted it using Spiced Carrrot acrylic craft paint.

For the top, I cut a large scallop circle out using my Big Shot…fortunately, it was exactly the right size, since I only have the one size die. Oh, wait…I could have made it any size I want on the Cameo and cut it. Duh!  I keep forgetting I have that capability!

Anyway, I freehand-cut a “B” and put buttons for the centers, then made “O”’s out of bakers’ twine and the large adhesive circles.  Love those, too.To finish it, I used silver crinkle paper (from Stampin’ Up!…surprise!) all around, tied off with more bakers’ twine.

Inside I cut circles of printed paper to line the top and bottom and wrote a greeting.

We (the hooligan and I) think it will be a very fun little surprise for our friend back in Washington.  She always came over for Halloween when we lived there, and we miss having her spend the evening with us!  At least now she’ll know we’re thinking of her. And probably be glad that she no longer has to bargain for every piece of Halloween candy the hooligans will relinquish.

I have a quick announcement…as of Saturday morning, when I’m writing this, I have 99 followers on my Facebook page.  I’ll be giving away a fabulous thank-you gift starting Monday (assuming I have 100 followers by then…so go follow if you haven’t, please!), so come back and visit me then!

Hi there, Megan. Just stopping by from the UBC. Cute banner and box. We get that kind of cheese too but never thought of reusing the boxes. Cool. I have an idea flowing…. yes! Thanks so much for the idea!

I LOVE this! It’s such a versatile idea, too. I’m thinking not just holidays and birthdays, but how about “congratulations” banners for graduations, and other special events? Ohh… my mind is abuzz! 🙂

THanks, Melissa…yeas, I think they’re a great idea for any occasion…and I think it might be cool to attach one end to the inside lid and the other end to the inside bottom so when they opened it, it would pull out to the banner. DO you think that would work correctly?
